The writings of immigrants are taken as the products, as well as the symbol, of the contact of alien cultures, for they contain enormous culture and aesthetic meanings, and we are attracted by the cross-culture and cross-discipline elements of them. In this article, we focus on a Chinese new immigrant writer, Yan Geling's status amongst the writings of new immigrants, and to analyze repetition and transformation of new immigrant literary creation in the field of anthropology, ethnics, culturology, we keep on with the issues of the conflict and adaptation of alien cultures, the pursuit of common humanity, and the new immigrant writer's practical value and cultural predicament. It is divided into two parts: in part I we concern with Yan's special status and characters amongst the writings of new immigrants, and in part II we analyze the cultural critic value of Yan amongst the writings of new immigrants. In part I, after a brief historical study of the writings of new immigrants, we know the writings usually become a narration of experiences, which appears to be either popular fictions of American Dream, or private novels which concern with oneself only. Different from them, Yan's novels show her quest for the common humanity, and insistently concerning of the living condition of the inferiors, which is absent in the writings of new immigrants. In this aspect, Yan's novels break into a new field. In part II, we analyze the culture critic views in Yan's texts, and try to find out the best adaptation way of different cultures in the global context. Yan raises doubts on some culture issues in the current world, and releases some cultural characters different either from the East or the West. Although she realizes the despairing conditions of human beings, she doesn't give up her query of the human destiny because of her great concern of common humanity. She wants to find a kind of love overwhelming races and cultures , which may be regarded as a Utopian ideal. However, it is referential and enlightening when we try to explore the issues of cross-cultural communication in the global context and so forth.
