The present study mainly investigates the pragmatic failures, the classifications of pragmatic failures and the causes of pragmatic failures by analyzing the pragmatic failures made by Kazak when they interact with Han Chinese. The study probes the pragmatic failures both from micro and macro angles, employing theories related to Intercultural Communication, Cognitive Linguistics, Relevance Theory, and Speech Act Theories. The author makes the macro analysis from linguistic contexts, cultural contexts, and cognitive contexts; and does the micro analysis from the angle of speech acts. The last part of the study puts forward some suggestions on how to avoid pragmatic failures to promote intercultural communication between Kazak and Han Chinese people.
