The conventional idea of regarding Chinese culture as an isolated and stagnant one does not match the situation of Fujian's culture.By studying the following three works and authors:" Dong Xi Yang Kao " by Zhang Xie in Ming Dynasty," Xi Hai Ji You Cao " by Lin Zhen and " Ying Huan Zhi Lue " by Xu Jishe in Qing Dynasty, this paper discussed the open character of Fujian's culture and literature by itself, which not only retains the excellence of traditional Chinese culture but also has the interactive capability to communicate with foreign culture for its openness and extroversion, and to follow the times and the trend under the historical background of the turning period from the end of Ming Dynasty to the Opium War period. The capability was embodied not only in the intellectuals and the common people, but also in the local official from the upper classes. Zhang Xie was born in YueGang, in Ming Dynasty and was famous for his erudition. Lin Zhen, representative of common people in Fujian, was born in Xiamen in Qing Dynasty. He did not go to school for formal education but taught himself English for which he was later employed in the United States as a translator and interpreter. Xu Jishe came to Fujian from inner land of China after Opium War to be an senior official for over a decade and he was the representative of senior official in Fujian. Because these three persons were epitome of Fujian's different social classes at that time, the condensation and extension of the extroversion of Fujian's culture and literature can be seen from studying them and their works. The article focused on how the Fujian's people actively enlarged their horizon to the world in the trend of times. Their works reflected the openness and compatibility of Ocean Culture, which is the product of Fujian's communication with the outside world and production of traditional culture which was represented by Fujian culture's communicating with foreign culture.
