| The thesis explores the translation of poetry illustrated with Shi Jing from a perspective of cultural translation. Cultural translation determines that the translator needs not only proficiency in two languages but also be at home in two cultures. With rich cultural connotations, poetry's translatability and untranslatability have always been under heated argument. Shi Jing is in classical Chinese. The translations of Shi Jing by different translators present us with a good perspective on the study of poetry's translatability. Through the analysis of different translations of Shi Jing, the thesis deduces that poetry is both translatable and untranslatable at different levels. The task of a poetry translator is to find translatability within the range of the untranslatability and create satisfactory output. |
