In China, the research of listening comprehension in recent twenty years focused mainly on listening comprehension teaching in class. So the research is closely related with inclass listening teaching methods. All the research about factors which influence listening comprehension and listening skills are used to guide inclass teaching. Listening activities are not limited in class teaching and learners need plenty of practices outside of classroom. Listening comprehension process is a kind of individual cognitive activity. Outside classroom listening practice belongs to procedures of self-consciousness and self-regulation. Therefore, how can learners achieve effective listening comprehension outside of classroom?Metacognition was presented by Flavell in 70s 20th century. Its essences are self-consciousness and self-regulation of people's cognitive activities. Metacognition in listening comprehension includes: factors which influence listening comprehension, when to use those listening skills and why they are effective. Metacognitive planning in listening comprehension is the proper choice and distribution of listening strategies. The Metacognitive control in listening is the problem solving when learners find the skills he used are not effective. The assessment in listening comprehension refers to the self-evaluation after listening process. So first, the author wants to help learners to understand their own cognitive situation in listening process, to know how to solve cognitive problems and when to use the listening skills and strategies. Therefore they could do regulation and assessment of their cognitive processes in outside classroom listening activities. This research focuses on Metacognitive activities in listening comprehension activities outside classroom. Subjects are expected to build up their individual Metacognitive Models therefore to achieve effective listening comprehension study.
