As one of the exploiters and founders of modern Chinese aesthetics, Zhu Guang-qian had played a great role in aesthetics studies and poetry studies. He was the first scholar who studied classical Chinese poetry and compared western poetry and Chinese poetry from the view of modern western aesthetics. His work, Poetry Studies published in 1943, on the view of comparative poetry, analyses the natural characters and disciplines of appreciation and writing of Chinese poetry, which is a huge contribution to the establishment of modern Chinese poetry system. Wen Ru-min, another famous scholar on Chinese poetry studies, said in his work named Criticism History of Chinese Modern Literature, "Poetry Studies pays more attention to scientific system and induces criticism and writing experience to the framework of aesthetics studies." Compared with other poetry studies, Zhu's has deeper theoretical consciousness. Zhu had been the most enthusiastic researcher saw poetry theories as a science since Wang Guo-wei." From these words we can get some knowledge of Zhu's contribution. As for Zhu's contributions, many researchers have focused some of them, however, they often pay too much attention to such problems as "Context theory" and "Rhythm Theory", less attention to special and complete studies. From Zhu's poetry theories, focusing on Zhu's contributions to poetry studies, the work emphasizes Zhu's studying methods, focused problems and creations. The work pays more attention to such problems which Zhu focused, such as psychology of poetry nature, physiology of poetry manifestations, research on artistic activities and comparison between western poetry and Chinese poetry. And then, From such three aspects as theoretical consciousness, studying methods of criticism and integration and spirits of cultural criticism, the work shows Zhu's contribution to modern Chinese poetry and position in modern Chinese poetry history.
