In Search Of Black And White

It is the application of colour that lies at the root of the expression of visual art. With regard to Chinese style,white and black are the two colours so widely adopted in Chinese wash painting that they are considered as the most charming colour which have attracted a great many Chinese literatis.In this thesis,beginning as a minature with the wash painting of Yuan dynasty which is historic ally sigmfkant,in view of China's traditional literature and philosophy , aesthetic conception, the literatis' life style and cultural background,the author has analysed the historical task of "white and black of wash ink" and the application of colour,through which the historical significance of "white and black" the close relation between "white and black of wash ink" and the literatis and the delicate skills of wash painting was incarnated. All these above can enlighten us a lot. According to the traditon of Chinese painting,literati painting always draws much attention.So recognition of literati painting and its tradition has become an inevitable problem for the painting world.lt is the expected by the author that by analysing the basic spirit of "white and black of wash ink" and through exploring its relation between literati a favoring endeavour will be made on this issue.
