Singing is a comprehensive art of performance on the stage which involves such factors on the performer as vocal skills, the understanding of "original works", creative abilities, the singing psyche, music awareness, art character, cultivation qualities, personal experiences, physical conditions, etc. A perfect vocal performance is the end product of all these factors. A study of the history of the art of vocal music proves that every successful vocal performer was well equipped with wonderful vocal performance skills, unique creativity, fair singing psyche and lofty art character. It's true that superb vocal skills are the prerequisite of a successful performance, however, it is also believed that they are not the only factors that ensure the success of vocal performance. Instead, the present thesis suggests that other" non-technical factors" (It is assumed that these factors are named as "non-technical factors " in that they are different from the "vocal skills") play an important role in singing and that they should not be neglected or replaced by "vocal skills".This thesis focuses mainly on the discussion of the "non-technical factors" rather than on the discussion of "vocal skills" in vocal performance. It aims at probing into the significance and the applications of the four factors leading to a successful performance at its highest level, which embodies: the understanding of "original works", creative abilities, singing psyche and art character of singers.
