This study attempts to characterize the employment of vocabulary learning strategies among Chinese university students as well as their differentia from high school students upon the analysis and comparison of two groups' statistical data gamed from the questionnaire research.Statistical analysis results show that university students have more frequent use and also a higher perception of the helpfulness of consolidation strategies over discovery strategies. There is an incongruity between the usage and perception of helpfulness of some particular strategies and these students show preference for cognitively less demanding strategies.By comparing the data from university and high-school respondents, it is discovered that though they share a common ground, there are still substantial differences between the two groups. Averagely, with all strategies, the responding ratios for both the usage and perception of helpfulness are much higher with university students than with high-school students. Strategies demanding advanced language proficiency and social knowledge are less practiced by high-school students though they express the same recognition for the helpfulness of these strategies. The findings suggest that students in all levels should be exposed to more strategies and be guided to have more practice of comparatively advanced strategies than elementary ones as well as the combination of multiple strategies.
