Bilingual instruction is advocated with the further development of the reform in China and the deepening of "opening to the outside world" policy, especially after China entering into the WTO. Though, strictly speaking, it is not a novelty, it is now developing rapidly with wide involvement of universities, middle schools as well as primary schools.Bilingual instruction sets high standards and requirements both for teachers and students. The paper carries out a case study about bilingual instruction at DMU. And the research question is whether a transition from EGP to bilingual instruction is required on the part: of students in the environment of China. Thus a hypothesis that " EAP serves as a bridge over the gap between EGP and bilingual instruction." is proposed in the paper.Various instruments and research methods are employed during the case study, including direct class observation, interviews of bilingual instruction teachers, etc. Besides, two large-scale questionnaires are also carried out with students from the three schools that have started bilingual instruction in DMU. Data collected from the research, together with the literature review of bilingual instruction in other countries and the comparative study of EGP texts and bilingual instruction texts, confirm the hypothesis, and finally, EAG is suggested as a bridge between EGP and bilingual instruction.I do hope that some research result of this case study can be of help to the teaching of English and some subjects in our university, especially in the aspect of bilingual instruction.
