The Weimar Republic was founded on the base of defeat, to the new German Republic, how to recover Germany was the most important problem. After the war, the key of whether Germany could recover lied in whether cities, especially big cities, could accomplish the recovery. Processing the democratization, municipalities all pursued activism, became the most important conductor who pursuit recovery, propelled recovery into each field of society, and laid the foundations of the stabilization in the Weimar period. However, the Great Depression unexpectedly came, it blocked up the way of Weimar to recover at last. The municipal recovery campaign failed. Even so, all kinds of measures and policies of municipality a new thought and method, and indicate the future direction of development.This paper is divided into three chapters. The chapter one explains why the municipalities can actively pursuit recovery. The chapter two tells the municipal action and methods. The chapter three probe into the municipal recovery campaign from the whole view. The conclusion discusses the problem about how to appraise "the municipal recovery campaign".
