As in quantity, Xin Qi-ji was regarded as the most productive/ greatest lyric poet of the Song Dynasty since he had more than 600 lyrics. He used lyrics as a spiritual tool to express feelings which could hardly be described in words.In the past, people only paid attention to Xin's patriotic lyrics. However, he used a unique style to express his complex emotional feelings through the pastoral lyrics. We have to study the Song Dynasty and the personal background of Xin before getting a thorough understanding of Xin's pastoral lyrics. By examining the forms and artistic styles of Pastoral Lyics, we can analze his thoughts and ideas.Xin had about 40 pastoral lyrics. There were not so many but they were special and unique. Those verses reflected the lives of people which the poet observed. By describing the natural landscape, local people, customs, peasants' feelings and hospitality, and his personal feelings in the lyrics, Xin expressed the beautiful pastoral life of that period.Most of Xin's pastoral lyrics were Xiaoling. They captured the typical village life by using simple direct description and allusive skills. The lyrics were so lively that we can feel the life styles of the villages and the sincerity of the peasants. In addition, Xi also revealed his pessimistic resistance against the real political system in his lyrics.
