Shen Congwen is a peculiar subjective writer. To some degree the descriptions about women in his novels are the embodiment of his thoughts and hopes, and his writings are the perfect explanations or inverse reflections to the Xiangxi (the west of Hunan province) world. However, his writings eventually could not be continued due to the irreconcilable conflict between the ideal and the reality.Selecting the representative urban and rural women in Shen's novels as the examples, this thesis elaborates from the textual analysis perspective that it is because of his subjective writing that brought about the conflict between the theme, the characters and the text, etc. Combining with his special growing experience and psychological process in cities, this thesis analyzes the family, emotional and psychological factors which produced the subjective women-describing strategy. Furthermore, this thesis analyzes how his writings got into the corner of conflict and dilemma and tracks down the real deep reasons for his writing puzzledom after 1940's.
