Lots of researches have shown that cloze could be used to measure the language ability of second language learners. However, scholars have not reached the same viewpoint about of different cloze tests which test is the most efficient and about whether different cloze tests will influence test-takers performance. Furthmore, scholars have a difference of opinion over the validity of cloze and over which kind of language ability various cloze tests measure. Moreover, most of the researches that scholars have engaged in aim at the cloze in which English is as the second language. Thus, this article supplies practical data in which Chinese is as the secondlanguage. This article reports that the four cloze--fixed ratio, rational,multiple-choice and C-test--have relatively high correlation, but thereliability of multiple-choice is lower than that of the other three. And then we reseach the correlational validity of the four cloze. The results show that fixed ratio of different articles might measure different language ability and that both rational and multiple-choice examine globle language ability.
