"Water Well" is one of the most ancient Chinese cultural implements. It is endowed with broadly and abstruse cultural connotations throughout the history of Chinese literature, especially when it is interpreted as a emblem of the Chinese culture and existed literary symbol. This certainly has great impacts on many aspects of the social lives. Since the birth of mankind, "Water Well" is a symbol undergone all kinds of transformations in Chinese Literature and Art, from classicality to contemporary, reflect the evolvements of cultural thinking and cultural psychology in all works of arts and literature in every Chinese dynasties. In addition, it also symbolizes an eternal seeking of the true existence of human beings, the true value of the existence and the true space of the existence. The text aims at organizing and researching the development as well as evolvements of the symbolization of "Water Well" in all works of arts and literature in each dynasty. Taking the masterpieces in the history of Chinese literature from each dynasty as the coordinates of research, it can be concluded and summarized that "Water Well" as a symbol, possess a few kinds of eternal and stable connotations which was formed in the history of Chinese Literature and Art over the thousands of years. Such as, "Water Well" is a symbol of Homeland and Mother Country. Leaving the "Water Well" means to leave one's country. And it is a symbol of limitation of one's thinking and predicament, in other words, is to have a very narrow view. It is also a symbol of the destiny of a humiliated woman who has been rode roughshod over, leaving her ghosts wandering near by the "Water Well". Finally, it is a life-giving channel of communication to the realm of the dead.The text avoided to collect evidences simply from the text of the masterpieces of literature and arts, but to gather information from historical facts, places of historical interests and relics, mythology and fables, folk-custom culture and many other multicultural contents. And placed them orderly and rightly into the argumentation of the text. This provided broader views of research and voluminous cultural connotations. The evidences illustrated and presented interdisciplinary that it sufficiently proved the abundant symbolization of "Water Well" and its influences and implantations in all aspects of the society.
