Town Plaza, The Water Feature Sculpture Study

From the view of semeiology, the process of how the statue as the symbol of the art and civilization come into being is studied, and the corresponding relationship between statue' s connotation and expression way is founded.And from the view of urban morphology, the waterscape and the statue are treated as the landscape factors of public space of a city. How they meet the public' s psychological requirements, and how they represent the spirit of the place, such as humanization, legibility, private and contexture of the urban plaza, are studied.In order to obtain an appropriate evaluating method, this thesis uses the method of phenomenology, and analyzes a lot of projects. The study contains the analysis of the successful and failure of these projects, and comparison of the design concept, transference of history, urban design, design techniques and expressing techniques of each project.The evaluation method set up by this thesis should represent its subjects' comprehensive concepts. They are the professors, artists, clients and the public. This method should also have the function of orientation and can be operable, and it can be a useful guideline in the design process, such as in the planning, designing, making decision and so on.
