The concept of filial piety of "The Book of Rites " had exerted a tremendous influence on the Western Han society. The Western Han Dynasty advocated "ruling the state through filial piety "so that the concept of filial piety had a great impact on many aspects of people's daily life. Having accepted the concept of filial piety in 'The Book of Rites", people in the Western Han Dynasty made great innovations according to that time ,such as wedding ceremony and sacrifice system, to meet the need of society and realized a breakthrough in the concept of filial piety. At the same time, the dissertation discusses the developing tendency of filial piety to pay attention to its form instead of paying attention to its content. It also discusses the problem of the strength of matriarchy. The key point of this dissertation is about the contradiction between the phenomenon of matriarchy due to the practice of concept of filial piety and the thought of "Men are superior to women". In fact, matriarchy is a kind of matriarchy rather than women' rights.
