Sugarcane is an important raw material of sugar industry.also it is a kind of economic crops Which embody high technology.sugarcane-planting has a history of more than 2000 years in GuangXi.During the long period of china feudalism,sugarcane is spreading and is being accepted by people all round the world.accompanied by the changes of dynasties and migration of people of all nationlities.the spread of sugarcane has made sugarcane the exchange media of economy and culture different nationlitis,which makes sugarcane play an important role in promoting integration of national economy.In the period of Ming and Qing,seclusion policy was carried out by the rulers of feudalism.For this reason,the communication of science and technology between China and foreign countries was cut off.sugarcane industry in GuangXi had little influence on integration of national economy,because GuangXi lies in the remote southwest China and thus education and economy lagged behind other areas,communication between different nations was strictly restriained.Dramatical change has taken place in China since the 19th century.China was involved in the current of global modernization.Therefore,sugarcane industry become one part of modernziation In the 1930s,the government of new laurel department stablished the proving ground of agriculture and forestry and invested to build the sugar refinery in the sugarcane industry had the modern charateristies. But because of unreasonable social system, sugarcane industries were improved slowly and couldn't break through original productivity level and formed qualitative leap , modernization in GuangXi made little progress. The contacts of various nationalities are restrained greatly, so the sugarcane industry played a little part in promoting the integration of national economy. Since the 1950s,the modernization of sugarcane industry in GuangXi has been accelerted as extensive industriizatoin carried out in China.Under the promotion of powerful government,a lot of sugar refineries have been built and cultivated area has been greatly enlarged,which has drawn more people to take up sugar production and has promoted the integration of national economy dramatically.After the 1980s,with the farther development of reform and opening-up and gradual setting-up of socialist market economy,the sugarcane industry in GuangXi radiates vigour again and the integration of national economy enters a new stage too though the structual adjustment,changes of operating machanism and rearrangement of state-owned assets,although it went through twist and difficulty.GuangXi is a multi-national compact,which includes 11 minorities such as Zhuang,Miao,Yao besides Han,There is still big gap in economy and culture between different nationalities although modernization has been carried out for more than 50 years.Therefore,it is still a hard nut for minorities' modernization.because the sugarcane industry is fragil and unripen,it plays limited role in driving the minorities' modernization and promoting the integration of national economy,so the function of sugarcane industry can't be over estimated in this paper.The sugarcane industry is a special trade which involves science,industry,agriculture and trade as an organic whole.More researches have been performed from the persectives of scientific and technical history and cultural exchange history in the past and great achievement has been made.But researches from the perspective of integration of national economy is rare.In view of this,integration of national economy is chosen as the measurement of modrenization of sugarcane industry in GuangXi in the 20th century.Also the function of powerful government ,initiative of folks and the function of market are regard as the three key factors in the course of modernization of sugarcane industry's promoting the integration of national economy of GuangXi in the 20th century.
