Throughout over 100 year's history of the Chinese film industry,30s of the 20th century is the most prosperous period for the development of film.Above all,this thesis establishes the conceptions of film industry and film industry chain and on this basis,analyzes the development of the Chinese film industry in 30s of the 20th century.This thesis is different from other early study on film industry in that this thesis is not concered with listing chronicles of the film industry and is concentrated upon the influence of typical events on the then film industry.The development of the film industry in this period is very representative as featured below:①The film industry in 30s of the 20th century may be divided into four stages,namely "preliminary \formation-scale\development and short-lived prosperity-struggling amid the turmoil of war -involuntary stop.②The technological development and basis forms of film have been finished.③The emergrnce and development of the star system.④The development of private-owned film industry entered into a period of prosperity.⑤The establisment of film news,reviewand criticism system.⑥Other industries branched off into the film industry and the film industry was featured by unprecedented development,etc.The industrial economics is a new discipline.It is a preliminary step for study on early Chinese film industry to analyze and study the Chinese film industry in 30s of the 20th century with relevant theories of the industrial economics.Macroscopically,industrial structure theories are used to explore the rise and fall of the Chinese film industry in 30s of the 20^th century while microscopically,industrial organization theories are used to analyze the development of Chinese film interprise at that time.Theories of industrial managment give us a better idea of various measures adopted by the government to interfere in the film industry.All the aforesaid theories are intended to profoundly explore the reasons for the scale formation,prosperity and susoension of the Chinese film industry in 30s of the 20^th century.As regards study methods,this thesis is festured by a combination of qualitative analysis and quantative analysis based on substantial data perusal,renewal and generalization of historical data.At the same,this thesis explores the reasons for the prosperous and standstill development of the film industry at that time as well as the pros and cons in the process by combining real evidence and examples and carrying out analysis and study with theories of industrial economics.In addition this thesis is intended to figure out the significance of the topic for the development of the present film industry.This thesis is also intended to attain the folowing innovations:①To break through the time period partition for 30s of the 20^th century and adopt ten years as the deadline,and figure out the wahole process of industrial scale development,formation(prosperity),stuggling amid the turmoil of war and forced suspension.②To look at the development of genre films(or commercial films)and its positions in the industry chain from the angle of film products and psychological study of film consumers.③To establish the notion of the Motion Picture Mega-Industry.To proposethe combination of different industries and industrial itegration on the basi of the study of the traditional film industry,as well as vitality brought to the film industry,namely the enlightenment on th theory of "Motion Picture Mega-Industry" ④To carry out rational analysis by industial economics.It may be an unsatisfactory attempt,but it is a big step forward as compared with many study methods in this field,for it is not focused on generalization and collation of historical data only.This is one of the features of this thesis.The commercial development of film was once very prosperous in China in 30s of the 20^th century.Film companies at taht time were confronted with no less fierce competition from Hollywood than today.
