At present, researchers in English language teaching and learning focus more on the learners themselves, as a result, great importance is attached to the learning strategies. This is a study on writing strategy training for non-English majors. The purpose of the study was to see the effectiveness of strategy training in the non-major field, namely, to prove the validity of writing strategy training for college students who are non-English majors. According to the theory put forward by O'Malley and Chamot (2001), the author presents a suggested framework of writing strategy training in college English writing class. Thiee types of English writing strategies were involved in the study, that is, the metacognitive, cognitive and social/affective strategies. In every writing class, according to Collins (1999), the steps are as follows: 1. Identify a strategy worth teaching. 2. Introduce the strategy by modeling it. 3. Scaffold students' learning of the strategy. 4. Give students opportunities to use the strategies many times. The experiment lasted 4 months and SPSS 11.0 processed all the data obtained. To be exact, by using the quantitative research such as t test and X3 test, it was concluded that: 1. Strategy instruction in writing can be effective in college English writing; 2.Writing strategy training can promote students' awareness in using English learning strategies.3.The using of the writing strategy is not related to the gender of the learners. The results suggest that the writing strategies are helpful in the learning of college English writing and that writing strategies can be taught and learned in the non-major English field. The thesis is made up of 6 parts: introduction, literature review, theoretical framework, research, results and discussion, and the conclusions. Part 4 and 5 are the main parts, which contain all the research procedure: hypotheses, instruments, data collection, statistical analysis and discussion and so on. Our belief is that once students master the writing strategies and can use them to other language tasks, the proficiency of English language teaching and learning can be enhanced unceasingly in China.
