With the development of the vocal music art and the related teaching theories, the vocal music subjects continuously go deep into borderline discipline and interdiscipline subjects. In the late 20th century, a new subject, vocal music psychology, came into being in our country. As a branch subject, the study of vocal music psychology, however, is still in its early development. Because of the lack of rational knowledge of the relationship between singers's characters and their singing performance, it is not paid enough attention in concrete vocal music teaching. This paper focuses on the theoretical research of the influnce of singers' characters on the learning and performance of the vocal music art, so as to effectively guide and help students of vocal music art to learn to sing, perform, compete in contests and make achievements in their careers. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part includes a brief introduction to the reasons and the significance of the research, a review of the academic research of vocal music art done in our country and a specific introduction to works and papers related to the study of it. The second part defines the fundamental concepts, introduces several usual methods of classifying characters, and analyses the character traits of students of vocal music art in detail from several aspects such as their attitudes to studies, will, feelings, and senses. The emphasis of this paper lies in the third part in which a rational analysis and an argument are done, dealing with the influnce of students' character traits on their learning, performance, temperament and their future achivements in the art. In order to promote students' learning and performance by improving their characters, the fourth part provides the theoretical basis as well as some means and tactics of adjusting and moulding such character traits as self-confidence, self-respect, diligence, and competitiveness in the students.
