At present ,with the deepening of Zen Buddhism aesthetics theoretical research and the transition of Zen Buddhism thought and scholar's painting art from a national one to world ,from a traditional one to modern ,it is really essential to carry out a study on the Zen Buddhism aesthetics spirit of scholar's painting which is a kind of artistic phenomenon with unique attraction .The aim of this thesis is to get deep to the tradition of scholar's painting and the theoretical system of Zen Buddhism ,particularly its south sect founded by Hui Neng ; put scholar's painting and Zen Buddhism in the linguistic context of culture and history to take into consideration ; look for the spirit and soul of scholar's painting and Zen Buddhism from the linguistic context of culture and history ; finally ,study the interrelation of scholar's painting .and Zen Buddhism ,as well as Zen Buddhism aesthetics spirit and unique aesthetic characteristics of scholar's painting. The process ,which is from take-in to take-out ,that is to say ,from nature to scholar painters' soul and then to artistic works ,makes the emergence of scholar's painting possible ,and yet it can't directly bring about scholar's painting art .Apart from that ,the emergence of scholar's painting art needs enough driving force from psychology and spirit .In other words ,only when the aesthetic ideal and spirit of an era become a kind of artistic creative motive in the scholar's painting activity, is the scholar's painting art really born , and in turn it becomes the undertaker of aesthetic ideal and spirit of an era . In the forming process of aesthetic ideal and spirit, which promote the emergence and prosperity of scholar's painting art ,Zcn Buddhism especially its south sect founded by Hui Neng ,plays an important role . We have to admit that scholar's painting is a kind of very unique spiritual shape .Because Confucianism ,Lao Zhuang thought ,Buddhism all have influence on Chinese scholar,whose spirit has changed ,then scholar's painting emerges .But it is safe to say that among all these thought background the prosperity of Zen Buddhism (especially its south sect )exerts a basic direct influence on the vigorous growth of scholar's painting. Because unlike secular Confucianism and detached Dao ,the prosperous Zen Buddhism which emphasizes self-nature and intuition doesn't go to the extreme .What's more ,the thinking of Zen Buddhism permeates the whole life idea and the thinking mode of Chinese scholar, then nourishes their unique aesthetic psychology and purport .In the long-term cultural accumulation ,this kind of unique aesthetic psychology and purport becomes the inclination not in the mouth but in the heart of every scholar .And the meeting of Zen Buddhism and art has injected special connotation and philosophic interest into Chinese art . Under the great background of the meeting of Zen Buddhism and art ,under the influence of Zen Buddhism artistic spirit ,Chinese scholar painters are different from their forefathers in choosing painting way and affirming the most ideal realm of painting ,then create the brand-new aesthetic dimension of Chinese painting art-—the tradition of scholar's painting .The scholar painters awaken Zen in the process of creating scholar's painting ,and explain scholar's painting with Zen in scholar's painting theory ,which have shown the self-nature and unique aesthetic interest of scholar painters .While scholar's painting itself presents the interest, thinking, realm of Zen through its implicit pregnant aesthetic characteristics .
