Marriages to Awaken the World was finished between Jinpingmei and Dream of Red Mansion. Because we do not know who wrote it so far, we do not know the exact time when the book was written. So, studying the system of modal particles represented in Marriages to Awaken the World is not only helpful to study the formation and development of everyday modal particles employed in Standard Chinese, but helpful to study both modal particles represented in modern dialects and the time when the book was written either.The paper consists of three parts:In the first part, scientific achievements on the mood and modal particles in the past are sufficiently assimilated.In the second part, the paper is devoted to synchronic description and qualitative analysis of the system of modal particles represented in Marriages to Awaken the World. In order to reflect the features of the system of modal particles and their evolution of semantic variation more accurate, we explain not only the correlation mood elements such as mood adverbs and interjections, but also the correlation notional words such as verbs with same morphology. If necessary, means such as comparison or statistics is employed so that the investigative subject can be examined from both diachronic and synchronic angles.The third is the last part of the paper. Through comparatively exhaustive investigation and analysis, we find out, though, as a historical period of the development of Chinese language, Marriages to Awaken the World has obvious quality of transition, it is obvious that, by the time when the book was published, the main usage of everyday modal particles employed in Standard Chinese had already been formed in the main, we also find out, the distribution of some modal particles is not in proportion to numbers of chapters in the book. From these typical features, we conclude that the system of modal particles represented in Marriages to Awaken the World is close to that represented in Dream ofRed Mansion. Finally, we attempt to provide an initial interpretation of the linguistic phenomena. As for the exact reason, further research is needed.
