| In the present paper, cohesion and coherence are taken as two perspectives to analyze the proofreading and error correction part in TEM8 and some corresponding methods are found out to help the students to make a better performance in doing it.The most important part of the research is the process that the various error types are classified and the classification standards are mainly based on Halliday and Hasan's taxonomy on cohesion and coherence and meantime some modifications are made to satisfy the need of this present study because the classification should be concise in the analyzing process of the 50 samples and also in the summarizing of the methods to cope with proofreading and error correction in TEM8. During the research process, all the errors are broken down into the two large categories of cohesion and coherence and further division is made in each category and specific instances are provided to illustrate each type.In this study, cohesion is divided into three types: reference, conjunction and lexical collocation and coherence is represented by one type, that is, contradiction in meaning, which occurs quite frequently. Then the way how the research in proofreading and error correction part is conducted is shown by analyzing two sample passages. Each passage in proofreading and error correction part is carefully analyzed and those errors which are related to cohesion and coherence are found out according to the classification standards. Eventually, all the 50 samples are analyzed and the final result is clearly displayed. 55.66% of the errors are found to be related to cohesion and coherence in the 50 sample papers and the errors are manifested in many forms. Then the according methods are summarized to solve these problems.It will be quite helpful to the students both in their performance in proofreading and error correction part in TEM8 and in their English comprehension ability if they can make good use of cohesion and coherence knowledge.
