Feiyu Bi is a young Chinese writer grown up rapidly in recent years. His works are famous for profound thoughts, deep contents and original language, which shape his own particular criticism culture and writing feature. Accordingly, he has developed his own style in today's literary world and gained more and more attention from literatus and critics. But up till now, most of the remarks on him and his works are limited to unscrambling a single novel of him, and are focused on the novels which have won some awards, such as "Qingyi" and "Corn", thus forming a research blank on a systematic and comprehensive discussion about his works. To fill up the research blank, based on the feelings after reading his novels, this paper intends to expose the tragic aesthetic characteristics of his novels by discussing his creative matrixes and the origin of these matrixes as well as the relationships between the matrixes. The thesis can be divided into three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. Part of the foreword : This chapter is the summary of the whole paper and presents the basic thought. It summarizes and evaluates Bi's writing style and features. By pursuing the tracks of his novels, the tacit creative matrix - "fear", which is the origin of those painful feelings in his works, is discovered according to his expressive creative matrix – "pain". Thus the tragic aesthetic characteristics of his novels are exposed. Main body: Based on abroad analysis of Bi's works, this chapter discusses the creative matrixes "pain" and "fear" as well as the tragic aesthetic characteristics with three sections. First section: The pain of life being unable to flee from. In this section, different kinds of pain in Bi's novels are expounded from three aspects. The novels "That summer, that august","Qinyi" and "Corn" carry the pain of desire from the deep heart of human; "Living in heaven", "No relationships with each other", "Women in lactation" and "Flying with a paper plane" embody the pain of loneliness in contemporary era; "Narration", "Writing", "Crystal ashtray", "Father and son in Ma's family" and "A close fraternal tie" expose the pain of disconnected generation caused by generational difference. "Pain" is the most intuitive feeling when reading his novels, thus being the expressive creative matrix of his novels. Bi reaches the real society we live in. But he does not just stay in the face of reality, but dig deep into the human nature. This writing style will leave distinct nicks in one's heart, thus making one feel painful. For Bi's works, "pain" has more profound and essential significance, since it is not only come from the lack of some values and contents in outer world, but also rooted in the existent heaviness that his heart can not bear but have to. It is "pain" that sets the keynote of his works. Second section: Fears that embarrass one's free subsistence. This section starts with Bi's works and sums up the dramatis personae's fears both of the outer world and inner world. By thorough reading and comparing all of his works, I find that the painful feelings of the characters in his works are come from another tacit creative matrix - "fear". Just because when the human be facing the other and the rule, history and the time, the ideal and reality, has had the numerous fears –"the other" to "oneself" carefully examines and is cut off, the natural rule and the rule of development of society irresistible and irreversible, constituted the characters' dread of Bi's novels from the outer world. Otherwise the dubiety and the incertitude of history and the anxiety which time long brings, the collision and the fission of ideal and real life, constituted the characters' fear of Bi's novels from the inner world. These "fear" is controlling the thought and motion of leading characters of Bi's novels, causes their instinct to resist and to struggle, thus produced the feeling of the pain. Third section: There is no place not in tragedy. "Pain" and "fear" accompa...
