With the development of the capitalism in modern China, the chamber of commerce was estalished and developed all over the country by the Qing government preaching and the influence of the west. As the delegate of the bourgeoisie, the chamber of commerce took part in economy, plitics and culture,so the chamber of commerce played an important role in modern history of China. Chengdu chamber of commerce was a good example.This thesis draws the outline of Chengdu chamber of commerce, especially analyses the new chamber of commerce which was reorganized in 1931. It covered its internal structure, the relationship with the government, the movement against Japan and so on.Chengdu chamber of commerce went through three stages:1905-1919; 1919-1931; 1931-1950. It developed quickly and made the great influence all over the country in 1905-1910. But the subsequent wars had affected work of the chamber of commerce. In the late 1920's, another kind of group, the association of merchant, was founded. For the leadership, conflict was caused between the association of merchant and the chamber of commerce. Finally, the new chamber of commerce was established in 1931 under the government's intermediation and order. At the beginning, the new chamber of commerce tried to abolish illegal tax and protected merchants' benefit, but it was reorganized by the government in the end. From then on, the chamber of commerce became conservative. In spite of passiveness in polices, Chengdu chamber of Commerce was still valuable. As an economic group, it should be rational to evaluate through economic history and social history. It got the fruits of spreading abroad ethos, prompting economicaldevelopment, backing education and supporting the movement against Japan .which accelerated Chengdu to modernize.
