By studying the historical materials about the germination,exploration and initial development of China's artistic design education throughout one century(from the late period of Qing Dynasty to the People's Republic of China founded), this article focuses on discussing and summarizing the basic features, models, lessons and experiences in the educational structure, schooling form, training objective, curricular setup and educational means of China's artistic design education over the period of the Republic of China(from the year 1912 to 1949). It also includes many kinds of social trends, educational thinkings and the main theories of famous educationists from the "Wu Si Campaign". At the same time, it analyzes in detail the economic, political and cultural influences on the development of China's artistic design education. They may be helpful for the establishment of a scientific and rational model of China's artistic design education, which will reflect the disciplinary features, meet the social needs and embody the age features and Chinese characteristices.
