Tan Dun is the most active and influential Chinese composer, conductor currently in the international musical world. Born in Hunan province and deeply affected by Chinese Xiangchu culture in his childhood, Tan Dun's music has leaps over the bounds between classicalism and modernism, east and west, whose works has won many top musical prizes in the world.Produced in 1978,the suite comprises of eight vivid and exquisite essays whose movement titles are ,,,,,,,respectively. Like the eight bright watercolours filled with artistic conception, the eight movements describe the pictures of the author's childhood life vividly, reflect his true feelings towards life and hometown, and express the composer's love for people and motherland. The creation of the suite, with the background of Xiangchu culture and with source material of Human folk music, absorbs Chinese traditional instruments like : the performing technique and style guzheng, ,the tone of folk gong and drum, the skill of modern production in the west, which make the suite full of national style and contemporary Characteristics.From the perspective of performing and teaching , the thesis gives a detailed analysis to the eight movements through the works' creation background, creation technique , main technical task and methods of playing, performing means and handling ways ,and so on.
