The Study On The Word Formation Of Netspeak Based On Language Corpus And Comparison

This thesis mainly study the word formation based on the language corpus(more than 2100 Chinese and English netspeak words) and language comparision(betweenChinese english netspeak and netspeak offline words).The appearance of CMC(computer mediated communication) generated a new social language—netspeak. However, a debate on netspeak rose and how to look at netspeak differed much: some think that the netspeak destroyed the purity of Chinese language. Dissenters think that since the language changes, the language in net age is not an exception. The net will bring some new changes to the language; the change is a need since language is the most important tool. Some even think the netspeak forerun the new Chinese in 21st century.Who is right?We think that: first, as a social language, the most obvious characteristics of netspeak is the words, and the specialty of the words is connected with the word formation. To understand the netspeak correctly, we must know the characteristics of it; and to know the characteristics, we must know the netspeak words; still, to know the netspeak words we must know the word formation; also, to know the word formation we must try to collect all netspeak words first. Secondly, the net first started in English world. To judge Chinese netspeak, we must study the English netspeak, the we can decide which are the characteristics of Chinese netspeak and which are the universal ones. Thirdly, the netspeak is a social language. To study the social language, the comparison with common language is a necessity.Then:First, we have collected the most netspeak words.Then, we studied the word formation of Chinese and English netspeak words respectively, and studied the ability of each way to create new words.Then, we compared the word formation between Chinese and English netpeak words.Also, we compared the word formation of netspeak words and common words.Through the survey, calculation, comparison and analysis,------We collected more than 2100 Chinese and English netspeak words,excluding the derivation. And we compiled the most profuse new Chinese and English netspeak words dictionary.------We found that the way of Chinese netspeak word formation had nine bigtypes and thirteen mini types, which had some new way and also the new ones, Comparing with common word formation, such as piny in words. English netspeak word formation had ten big types and eighteen mini sorts, which is same whichcommon ones.------Comparing the netspeak word and common word formation, We found, forChinese the differences between netspeak word and common ones were bigger than those of English, which is originated from conflict between the keyboard input and Chinese character.Through the analysis and comparison, we can find that, the reason for what Chinese netspeak is now, partially is because of the common characteristics of languge, such as the economics of language use, the characteristics of net communication, etc; partially because of the characteristics of Chinese language, such as, pinyin as the media of keyboard input. The latter one can be solved with development of net communication science.So the netspeak will contribute much to the common language, but we still can not say the netspeak language represent the trend of language development in 21st century.
