As the world enters into the information age, the worldwide use of Internet has been further popularized and developed. The network has begun to seep into all aspects of people’s life and work, and people have also gradually accustomed to use the Internet for a variety of communication, which generates the network language. As a new field of linguistic research, network language, especially the netspeak neologisms, has attracted widespread attention from the linguists. The comparative analysis on word formation of both Chinese and English netspeak neologisms will be conducive to a better understanding of the structural features of the new network words, thus further the promoting of the vocabulary teaching in TCFL.The thesis makes a detailed comparison on the netspeak neologisms between two languages from the perspective of word formation. Firstly, it identified the definition of the netspeak neologisms and all the netspeak neologisms are classified into four categories. Then, through the comparative study on the affixation, compounding, shortening, partial tone, old words with new meanings, emoticions and loan words of netspeak neologisms between Chinese and English, as well as their own unique word formations, the thesis summarizes the similarities and differences on their word formations. In addition, the third chapter also makes a thorough classification and analysis on those online "Chinglish" buzzwords that come from English word formations but are with Chinese special connotations. These words are formed by affixation, pinyin, blending, compounding, and partial tone, which are not only basically in line with the rules of English words but also reflect the social reality of China, causing widespread concern of many scholars. Besides, the last part of this chapter puts forward my own opinions which may be different from the conclusions of other scholars on their study of word formation of netspeak neologisms between Chinese and English. In the last chapter, the thesis mainly discusses the impact of netspeak neologisms on TCFL and the coping strategies based on the analysis of the characteristics of netspeak neologisms, suggesting that teachers of TCFL should take the different situations of different students into consideration when adding netspeak neologisms into the practice of TCFL.
