Also, and more importantly, it will lead us effectively into the field of deep ecology and will acquaint us with the important trends in the philosophy of environment and the ecological movement. The thesis has three chapters:Chapter One discusses the origins of Arne Naess'"Ecosophy T. Ecosophy T draws on extensively from various intellectual recourses. It springs from the western cultural tradition. It is also nourished by Eastern philosophy and religion. More directly, it stems from modern ecological sciences. In bringing to light the origins of Ecosophy T, I will concentrates Spinoza's conception of totality and the notion of equality, Gandhi's non-violent philosophy, the wisdom of the Taoism and Buddhism, and modern ecology, etc.Chapter two includes the following sections: Firstly, an account of how Arne Naess coined the term"Ecosophy T" and what he means by it; Secondly, the main theses of Ecosophy T, that is, Gestalt Ontology, Equal Intrinsic Value and Self-realization. Thirdly, the methodology of Ecosophy T, which includes intuit Jen, deep questioning and deduction; Fourthly, the application of Ecosophy T, that is, its claims about life style , economy , science and technology, and politics.Chapter three discusses how Arne Naess and his followers respond to various criticisms, especially those from eco-feminism, social ecology and the third world. The significance of Ecosophy T in theory and practice is assessed here. Then I try to specify the deficiencies of Ecosophy T and explore its possible further development.
