Chinese lexis is an open system. In this system, we can study a close system on standard of meaning. This paper is a study of lexical system on Chinese dress words in Pre-Qin dynasty.This paper includes a preface and five other parts. In the preface, the paper explains why to choose this object and how to study it. In part 1, the paper introduces a short history of the dress progress in Pre-Qin dynasty. In part 2, the paper uses the theory of semantic field to analyze the lexical system on Chinese dress. In part 3, the paper describes the classification on the lexical system from the aspect of social & cultural functions. In part 4, the paper lists verbs that were used in Pre-Qin dynasty. In part 6, the paper discusses the cultural connotation in the dress lexical system.The main body of the paper is the part 2, 3 and 5. In part 2, the paper uses the theory of the semantic field, divides the dress lexical system into four sub-field and discusses the connection and difference between the words. In part 3, the paper classifies the whole lexical system into four sub-system of sangfu, jifu, rongfu, chaofu and describes every sub-system in detail. In part 5, the paper reveals the material civilization, spiritual civilization and social institutional civilization that the lexical system on Chinese dress words connotes.
