Issues of ecological environment have been a thriving topic to study at the threshold of 21 century and literature and art closed to the relationship of human being and nature have appeared in succession. Recently, many scholars who study literature through the viewpoint of modern ecology are exploring new space of literature study ——the field of ecological literature. Different viewpoints of definition and connotations of ecological literature have been put forward and discussed from different perspectives in recent years. Obviously, the study of the subject is not only a thriving topic, but also is in the earlier stage of study and reconstruction. Therefore, on the base of investigation and thinking, the author tries to take an open and exploring study about some issues of ecological literature, such as its definition, origin, connotation and study meaning, and so on. Part one tries to review several representative definitions of "ecological literature", then to put forward the author's "view of ecological literature". In part two, the origin of ecological literature is researched. The development of the industrial civilization caused the serious crisis of ecology increasingly. This is the realistic reason of the birth of ecological literature, which interweaves with the spiritual crisis of ecology that hides behind the realistic reason to cause the crisis of survival that human being are facing. Part three is to describe the connotations of ecological literature. They are: to form the whole view of ecology; to cultivate the responsibility for ecology; to criticize "the theory of desire motivation"; to describe the crisis of spiritual ecology; to return to the harmony of man and nature and to describe ecological literature as the navigation light for resting poetic thoughts of man. Some works are really from the position of ecology and the world outlook of ecology to study the modern society, such as the novel Missing the Wolf written by Jia Ping'ao, report literature series to Keep Watch Home by Xu gang, the drama play Wild Man by Gao Xingjian and the movie play Ke Ke Xi Li by Luchuan. The thesis will analyze them to describe the connotations of ecology literature further. Part four aims at expounding and proving the practical meaning of the study of ecology literature. Human being is supposed to protect the earth to get away from the difficulties of survival, and make the strategy of continual development come true. Standing on the threshold of the new century, we are looking into the future of the world. Facing the trampled earth, scholars, who have studied ecology literature, regard the fate of nature as their own. They write ceaselessly to call on the reconstruction of modern ecological sense. Hopefully, the thesis can shed light on the study of ecological literature in 21 century.
