Children’s understanding of apparent and real emotion distinction is an importantcomponent of their social development of emotion. It has great impact on theself-regulation and self-management of children’s feelings and external behavior, andpromotes children to get a better social effect in the process of social interaction. Theunderstanding of apparent and real emotion distinction refers to individual’s ability tocomprehend the inconsistency between external expressions and internal feelings. Itcan be classified into two dimensions of negative emotion and positive emotion; it canalso be classified into two types of pro-social and self protection according to themotivation to hide emotions. The understanding of apparent and real emotiondistinction will improve as children grows and is affected by such factors aslanguage, nervous system, culture and peer interaction.The purpose of the study is to investigate the development characteristics ofgender and age of Understanding of apparent and real emotion distinction of4~7year-old children in different motivation and emotional types, and then explore itsrelationship to the understanding between appearance–reality.The study uses story interview, taking120children from4to7year-old from atown of Jiutai city. the study investigate the developmental characteristics ofunderstanding of apparent and real emotion distinction and the relationship with theunderstanding between appearance-reality by the tasks of distinction betweenapparent-real emotion and distinction between appearance-reality.1.Understanding of apparent and real emotion distinction of4~7year-old childrenimproves with age, and the understanding of male is better than female’s.2.The ability does not exist significant differences in positive emotions andnegative emotions.3.The ability does not exit significant differences in motives of self-protectionand motivation pro-social.4.The correlation between understanding of apparent and real emotion distinctionand understanding of appearance-reality is positively significant; the latter growsearlier than the former grows.
