In the poetic field of Victorian Age, Tennyson is one of the most important figures deserving of much attention. He's a talented poet that even when he was very young (18 years old), he published his poetic works with his two brothers. But in the early period of his writing, his poetry was less favorably accepted and even incurred a lot of severe criticisms. After ten year's silence and hard struggle, his fame was established gradually. His Poems published in 1842 were favorably accepted, and the publication of The Princess and In Memoriam in the following years was even warmly welcomed, which made him become the most beloved poet of the Victorian Era. He was awarded Poet Laureate in 1850 after William Wordsworth's death and his poetry was much read by his people.Tennyson is such a prolific poet that in his life-long writing career, he produced a very large amount of poetry, which covered many aspects of the Victorian life. He adventured almost all kinds of poetic genres and usually put them into creative use. "In Memoriam Stanza" is one of his great contributions to the English poetic edifice.But one of the most outstanding features of his poetry is its sheer beauty, especially in his lyrical poetry.Tennyson may be called, to some extent, a poet who paints. Many of his poems are beautiful pictures. In his poems, we can find almost all kinds of images: visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, kinesthetic, and synesthetic images. They are well organized and they aesthetically impact our sense organs, thus to give us a kind of sensuous beauty as well as noble spiritual enjoyment.Besides, Tennyson is also a good master of the sounds and rhythm of English language. He tries to use different kinds of verse techniques, such as meter and its variation,, diverse rhyme patterns, and other sound effects as onomatopoeia, alliteration, etc. His poetry has an outstanding musical quality of both rhythmic and harmonious beauty.Another important feature of his poetry is its diction. Tennyson is familiar with the poetical words. Archaic words and simple words are combined and cooperate very well...
