The Study Of New Style Vocabulary's Origin In Xi You Jian Wen

Yu Ji Jun is the person who lived at the end of 'Chao Xian' dynasty. He was called as a thinker, teacher, and Politician. He was outstanding person among the people in those days. He went to Japan as 'Shen Shi You Lan Tuan', and then he remained in Japan as an overseas student. So, he could study Japanese new level of civilization under the teaching of 'Fu Ze Yu Ji1 who controled the Japanese world of thought in those days. After he returned from Japan, he went to America as missions. He also remained in America to study new western knowledge. He was the first Korean person who became an overseas student in America. In that period, he visited many western countries and he wrote a book on what he saw and heard. The book is Xi You Jian Wen that I made a study of. Xi You Jian Wen is very different from ordinary books of travel. The book consists of 20 chapters. Each chapter introduces all kinds of western culture such as western politics, systems, scientific civilizations, geography, etc. And, he also communicated his thought in the book. In this thesis, I studied and placed stress on Japanese style Chinese words that was written in the book. In other words, There were a lot of new words that were not used in 'Chao Xian1 dynasty until then. Those vocabularies are still used in Korea, so I studied the influence of those Chinese words on contemporary Korean words. And, I laid emphasis on making the origin of those words clear. In the process of studies, I found out there are also Japanese style Chinese words in contemporary Chinese words. I considered Xi You Jian Wen 's language characteristics in 7 territory. Those Chinese words that were used in Korea as their own language were written in Chinese character, but Chinese can not understand the meaning of those words clearly even though they can read them. 'Li Du1 (the ancient way of transcription that transcribes Korean sentence by using Chinese.) and ancient Korean also cannot be understood by Chinese. The neologisms that was made by 'Yu Ji ]un' are more difficult to understand. There were Chinese words that were not used until then and were different from Chinese vocabulary at that time in each country's name and the names of places. Especially, the names of countries or the names of places that were made by 'Yu Ji Jun' were very difficult to comprehensive as much as the neologisms because he made new words by Chao Xian pronunciation when he make neologisms by pronunciation. The worth of Xi You Jian Wen can not be easily defined because Xi You Jian Wen is studied as the object of research in many fields such as language, history, politics, law, education and 'neology, etc. But, the studies of the book in language are few. So, I put stress on Japanese style Chinese vocabularies to find out the origin of Korean language in this thesis. This thesis is composed of as follows. Chapter I depicted the state of research about Xi You Jian Wen by other studies, the object of this study, the plot of this research, and the method of the study. I chose comparative study with using research materials as the means of study. Chapter II researched 'Yu Ji Jun' and Xi You Jian Wen in general. It is composed of the life and thoughts of 'Yu Ji Jun' and the publishing background and contents analysis of Xi You Jian Wen. Chapter III analyzed that the contemporary Korean words used in Xi You Jian Wen originated from Japanese style Chinese words. In the process of the research, I found out there were still many Japanese style Chinese words in contemporary Chinese language. I also considered Xi You Jian Wen 's language characteristics in detail in 7 territories.
