To be frankly, Continuing the Golden Lotus is not a first-class novel, and much study has been done on it. However, because of all kinds of reasons, this novel still leaves the space of explanation and the value of further research. This dissertation attempts to give more comprehensive case-research on Continuing the Golden Lotus, expecting to understand this novel and relevant novel- history phenomena more deeply.Besides introducing author's life and this novel' s creation, publication and editions briefly, the preface mainly sums up the existing research achievements as well as proposes the research frame and basic concepts of this dissertation.The main part of this dissertation contains three chapters.The first chapter is to explore the theme in Continuing the Golden Lotus. Through establishing the triple relations, this chapter mainly probes into the multiple themes of this novel, thus points out that the dialogue with the Golden Lotus points to the theme of persuading virtue and punishing evil, the dialogue with social ideological trend points to the theme of last phase, the dual-self dialogue in the novel text points to the theme of self-save. These themes interweave each other and form the complicated thoughts of the whole novel.The second chapter is to talk about the narrative art. Measured by the narrative tradition of the vernacular novels, this chapter makes a concrete analysis of plot frame, narrative arrangement and narration intervention, then concludes that Karma establishment, plate structure and inlaid discourse in this novel, which reflect the transmutation of narrative art, are unique.The third chapter is to locate Continuing the Golden Lotus...
