As buddhism was introduced into China from India,buddist art was flourished in northern of China.From SUI dynasty,Cliff Carving spreaded to south-western SHU,such as the greatwork of GuangYuan thousands buddhist cliff earving. After extermination of Buddhism by Tang-wu-zong in BC845,buddhist art began to fall into a decline in central plain, the political and economical center of China.After the late Tang dynasty,there were no new grottos appeared in northern China.But buddist art renaissanced in SiChuan area,as the form of cliff carving,lasted five generation. And Until the Song Dynasty, Dazhu caving appeared.In the four years' investigation of buddhist cliff carving in Pujiang and Qionglai around Chengdu,through the gathering and concluding on the basic information,this revival is proved in some degree.Besides,the researcher has collected some picture theme without explanation that with no recordation in the literature and not even appeared anywhere else.The appearance of New art theme dealed with difference level and aspect of economic and culture context.So,it is highly nessesary to get the appropriate explanation of the theme as iconographic.
