Dadai Liji which is called The Fourteen Classics is the compilation of Confucian documents. The name of this book comes from DaiDe who is a master of LiXue of XiHan Dynasty. The book is completed in the DongHan Dynasty. In the past times, scholars made researches on it mostly from literary and philological aspects but not linguistic aspect. The vocabulary of Dadai Liji is an important embodiment of the vocabulary composing in XianQin Dynasty and LiangHan Dynasty and a connecting link between the preceding and the following in history of lexics. There is a lot of significance and values in researching on the vocabulary of Dadai Liji. So the thesis chooses the vocabulary of Dadai Liji as the object of the research, tries to make all-sided and in-depth research on it by the means of combing statistic and analysis, synchronic description and diachronic comparison and does some work for the study of the history of Chinese language. The thesis consists of four chapters: preface, monosyllables, disyllables and polysyllables and conclusion. In the preface, we not only introduce simply about the course of completing this book, the content, the source of the datum and the general situation of the research of Dadai Liji, but also definitude the reason of choosing this subject and the methods of research. The chapters of monosyllables, disyllables and polysyllables are the main body of this thesis, and the last chapter is the conclusion of the thesis. In the second chapter, we mainly discuss the characteristics of the monosyllables from three aspects, i.e. literary (distinguish the character andword),syntax (substantive and empty word), semantics. In the third chapter, we mainly analyze them by the point of view of word-building, also discuss some typical examples, analyze causes and principles of these language phenomena, and compare them with other literature, try to post the characteristics of the disyllables and polysyllables. How to ascertain the standard of being disyllables is the emphasis of this chapter and the thesis. From the forms of word-building, we can see that the disyllables and polysyllables of Dadai Liji have possessed the forms of LianHe, PianZheng, DongBin, FuJia, ZhuWei, and so on, and tend to perfect. At the same time, LianHe and PianZheng are the most important forms of word-building of all. The number and frequency of the monosyllables, disyllables and polysyllables tell me that the monosyllables account for the preponderant station, but the proportion of disyllables and polysyllables is biggish too.The vocabulary of Dadai Liji is an important link of the history of vocabulary of Chinese language. It has a significant value of language material and plays an successive poly in the history of Chinese language.
