Mainly This paper discuss the problem of Time in literature. Literature, exactly to be the poem representative of the art of language, have been addressed as the art of Time two hundred years ago .From the angle of literary fields, Time may be regarded as the coexistence of two kinds of world: one is the world described by us ;the other is tentatively called certain time related to the literature text . This problem have been disputed for long and it can be divided into verified kinds according to different angles. The former is linear and not reversible. Yet, the latter is multidimensional and it can become the personal experience through the sense perception. Therefore the latter would never be paralleled with the former and realize its continuance and sequence. The perception and emotional action may not be controlled by the rational rule. In fact, the latter have the authority to cut up the former freely. This tendency to conform Time intentionally become stronger and stronger for the modernistic authors in the 20th century. Time itself is channeled into the subject of their creative works to the modernistic authors. In the process of their writings, time directly becomes the widespread phenomenon in their creative skills and What's more, in their inner conception. Heidegger have affirmed like this'Time exist as neither subject nor object, and the sense of time exist more early than any subjectivity and objectivity, because it show up the condition themselves that makes the existence possible."Maybe, It is because that Time have such essential to exceedthe subjective world and the objective world, in that circumstances that many original motifs often chosen by the traditional writer had lost their sacred position and eternal value in the literature. Thus, it seems time becomes the only thing worth thinking over in the ideological fields: Prouste opened the door of past time to pursuit the meaning of existence; Faulkner revealed the sense of life behind the monodimension time through the experience of present; Elite find the eternity of life in the religious time, and so on. These writers never give up explaining this world and try to set up the value in the world. To some extent, for the modernistic authors, time seems to be a rule which can measure the world. That is my first reason that I focus on the problem of time in the modernistic authors' works.the reasons that why I arrange Virginia Woolf into my paper is following :she was one of the modernistic authors having the most achievement around the world and her ideas can be representative of her times. Also, Virginia Woolf herself cared about the problem of Time greatly, which can be proved by the diversified arrangement on the time frame in each of her novels. Moreover, her ideas on time have certain resemblance to Bergson's psychical timeThus, I will regard her novel, Mrs Dalloway as my expounded target, and penetrate the deep relationship between two characters, by which I will annotate the time style on this characters. And my argument will arise to the degree of the understanding of the time and life.Early in 1949, the critic John Graham have concerned himself with the problem of time in the novels of Virginia Woolf. His assessment Time in the Novel of Virginia Woolf have been collected into Virginia Woolf: Critical Assessments, edited by Eleanor McNees. In this article, first Graham hold that her three novels the voyage out ,night and day ,and Jacob's room "focus on the apparent dichotomy between two kind of time, two worlds ", but "Mrs Woolf is troubled by the apparent dual is tic conflict between these two worlds ". He think in these first novel the dichotomy is not solved . "The problem is stated, not solved",but he remarkes "In her nextnovel, Mrs Woolf does offer a solution, which depends to a great extent on the relationship between Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Smith ". Furthermore, he says "This relationship is progressively revealed in the long scene after she hears of his death" In his view, the relationship lies in the ending of the novel that Clarissa return to the party, which is regarded as the transfiguration of time by him. Except this side, he also refers to "A skilful subordinate device is used throughout the book to reinforce this relationship between Septimus and Clarissa ". That is the Shakspeare' verse "not afraid of the heat of sun, not afraid of the winter". John Graham analyze every appearance of the verse and makes his own explanation. In all, he hold that the three time that the verse recur in the novel is without the two character's agony Especially the second appearance in Septimus's consciousness. It is "in his momentary tranquil return to the actuality ". And then he find Time is transfigured. So it is from the angle of the transfiguration of time that John-Graham analyze the relationship between the two characters.Expect John Fraham, other remarkers have also pay attention to this character's relationship. Julian Pattison in his book Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf remark like this, "Although Clarissa Dalloway is only loosely connected to Septimus Smith through the plot of the novel, the link between them is made absolutely explicit through the wave and sea imagery" Related to this problem there is still others in the western academic circles .In domestic academic circles, a few expert have also explore this problem. Like Mr Qu Shijing, in one of his articles, Character, theme, Structure in Mrs Dalloway ,discusses that " the same objective time, place and incident is the first bridge; William Bradcho is the second bridge, because he is not only Septimus's friend, but also Clarissa's guest; The third bridge is a recurring tag from Shakespeare"fear no more the heat of the ,fear no more the winter". But it is a pity that Mr Qu doesn't go further about this point, and he just think this verse express the idea of death in both of the characters' minds. In my paper, I will discuss thesepoints from diverse angleI divide my peper into five parts. In first part, from the angle of the paralleled character, elaborate the configuration of the character and the sense of the paralleled structure in the novel. And then I approch the meaning of big Ben in the novel and set forth my opinion that the big Ben not only mark the objective time but also they become the Synchronous touch point of the character's consciousness. And then, I will penetrate the deep sense behind Shakespeare's verse from the angle of the present time of the literary aesthetics and this is the most difficult part to handle.. In the forth part, the juxtaposition in space have gone into my writing and the paper enters into the pondering that to juxtapose the main paralleled character in the same space indicate the author makes time special So next in the fifth part, the party, climax in this novel is my key point in my paper. And in the party, the death of Septimus evokes Clarissa ponder the death and life. In the final part, I summarize the whole parts above and point out it is the Synchronism that links the paralleled character in the novel, which is the writer' comprehension of life. Therefore, the problem of time is also a complex topic. In different ages, it has verified conformation ,which mean that some space to explore deeply has been left for me. But at the same time, it is a big challenge to my ability of analyzing the novel. Thus, during my writing, by the reason of the lack of training of the literature, some mistake have possibility to come up, when I deal with some profound problrms.
