British female writer Virginia Woolf is widely known as a pioneer of feminism. And stream of consciousness is a remarkable feature of her works.Mrs.Dalloway concentrates the whole life of the protagonist Clarissa Dalloway into one day and also records the process changing from life to death of the First World War veteran — Septimus. It was Woolf's first experimental work, which Woolf once praised as “my best novel”.The thesis combines Henry Bergson's psychological time and representative spacial theories of Henri Lefebvre,Michel Foucault,Edward Soja, and David Harvey to analyze Woolf's classic novel,Mrs.Dalloway.On one hand,it focuses on the time concept, introducing Henry Bergson's classic “psychological time” theory, and applies it to analyze physical and psychological time in the novel with the aim to reveal their influences on both physiology and psychology of people. On the other hand, based on the analysis of the space devaluation and spatial turn,it explores the spatial images and discusses connections between space and social relations, and their resulting impact on people with the combination of spatial theories. Moreover,it discusses the relations between time and space embodied in the novel, and the conflict and harmonious coexistence of them with a hope to reach a deeper understanding of Woolf's thoughts, and demonstrate its everlasting charm.
