Robert Frost is America's most note worthy poet, being loved and esteemed by the people. As a typical new England poet, Robert Frost begins at the beautiful sceneries in new England, while concludes with life philosophies. My thesis is an investigation of the correspondence between poetry and philosophy in the twentieth-century poet, more specifically, the philosophic overtones in Robert Frost's poetry. With the introduction to Frost and his poetry, we have the basic ideas of his poetry creation; and in the central part I divide the philosophic overtones of his poetry into three categories: philosophy concerning men and nature, philosophy concerning men and mankind, philosophy concerning men and society. I take Frost's concrete poems as examples and investigate the philosophies, which are based on the philosophic thought of some famous ancient philosophers.Frost's poems are simple at the first sight, but contain wit and wisdom, which demand us for deeper reading. It is the author's intention to provide a study method of literature; hopefully this paper will contribute to a better understanding and appreciation of the literary works.
