Homosexuality had once been regarded as a common kind of ardor existence in ancient China. In Ming and Qing Dynasty, there were abundant homosexual descriptions in novels, dramas and essays as well. In 19th century, however, attitude towards homosexuality changed delicately when western opinions on love got accepted widely in China. From then on, homosexual depiction had to hang back on the edge of literary world till its disappearance. Table turned again for homosexuality in 1990's, this time favorably, with the introduction of western homosexual theories into China. Homosexuality reemerged in literature as a popular theme and the newly known theories initiated positive response and even bold creation in local literal homosexual languages. Having to take radical western ideas with traditional narration resources, the contemporary Chinese homosexual literature shows a very complicated configuration, which at the same time makes possible a dialogue between local ideas and western theories. On the other hand, textual aesthetic pursuit, accompanying sociological interpretation, helps homosexual narration cross its own field and become a complicated cultural phenomenon. Study on homosexuality accordingly becomes a branch of cultural studies of which the research domain will probably be enlarged considerably.
