A Contrastive Study On Female Speech Style Of English And Chinese In Interview Program

With the methods of stylistic analysis and contrastive analysis, this dissertation conducts a quantitative and qualitative analysis on the distribution and frequency of female style features in English and Chinese interview programs from different levels: vocabulary, grammar and communicative competence for the purpose of describing and discussing the similarities and differences between the English and Chinese female speech styles. Furthermore, the comparison between the result of this study and those of the former linguists is made to examine the problems existing in this field and provide some suggestions, which can give some insight to female style research and make a manifestation and modification to the western female style theories.
