Music Therapy is a new and developing marginal science, integrating music, therapy and psychology together, and is the development and application of music influence beyond traditional art appreciation and aesthetic conceptions. Music therapy is the systematic application, as directed by the music therapist in a therapeutic environment, to bring about relief from some disease and deal with a certain healthy problems. Consequently, after enough and effective medical treatment, music therapy can bring unexpected adjunctive treatment and quicken the patients' recovery.Although our country is one of the ancient sources of music therapy and there are amounts of relative documents and clinical cases in historical materials of Primary Society, The Spring and Autumn Period and The Warring States, and Qing Dynasty, our modern music therapy is far behind, and only in a recent decade it has become as a profession. It is obvious that on the whole our music therapy level lags behind and still is in primary stage, which is regretful and inappropriate to our current status in international arena.This article looks back the history of music therapy firstly performed by means of magic and religion and then changed into a systematic treatment. It reveals music contribution to our survival and is a cognitive return to the original function of music.The definition and principle of music therapy, the relation between emotion and music six elements, that is, pitch, loudness, timber, melody, harmony and rhythm respectively, and the ways and principles of music on physical and psychological health were expounded. In addition, the medical ways of music therapy commonly used in the world, which is the theoretical basis of further expounding the auxiliary effect was also enumerated.This article mainly studies and discusses music application and development on physical and mental illness beyond traditional art appreciation and aesthetic conceptions, analyses implementing forums and details of music therapy combining with types and cases of several physical and mental ailments, and offers a general and flexible implementing measures. Finally, the present music therapy problems existing in our country were analyzed, and the fields to require more attention to develop and prospects of development was predicted, and several feasible plans were put forward.
