A Study On Puccini's Opera Features

This thesis explores puccini's opera features from the following five aspects :theme,creation ,music, structure and aesthetic in theme,Puccini always chose those inferior literary works,focused on the trivial subject matters and devoted himself with great zest to the description of some tragic females his works,which show a strong feature of verism,are full of exotic nature they are experimental in various kinds of styles he never subjected himself to a certain school,but he always kept in touch with all kinds of music schools prevalent at his time.As far as opera music is concerned,Puccini insisted on the predominant position of singing in operas and thought that the expressive power of the orchestra should be brought into full play as well,for which his works are melodious and widely popularized. As for the aesthetics,Puccini 's operas are full of tragic beauty but not wanting in comic elements,which shows the beauty of harmony,accompanied with dramatic conflict.All in all,he developed his own opera style.
