As the basic unit of society and culture, Family has been shown variously in Chinese Literature, even formed distinctive Family(saga) literature, and Family(saga) novel is a most important genre. In a sense, Family(saga) novel means the narrative works, which cover family structure, family pattern, family ethics, family' s evolvement of rising-and-declining, and can ingeniously and completely reveal family features, so that offer us a glimpse into the typical epoch and culture atmosphere. "A Lantern by the Forked Road" was a masterpiece of Family(saga) novels, inherited the Family literature tradition and developed in depth on such aspects as the theme, subject matter, and artistry. But since the 1920' s, study on this novel could not match its own achievements and influence. Although the academic circle acknowledged its realistic achievements, they held that its whole accomplishments were common, ideology was decayed, and it concentrated on preaching, thus significant research focuses haven' t formed. " A Lantern by the Forked Road" remains to be studied beyond subjective prejudice and misunderstanding from space-time distance, and awaits comprehending its values and meanings in a more expanding way by regulating visual angle and study measures. This thesis tries to focus on its attention upon the fate of Family (saga) and the development to the Family(saga) Literature, afterwards reveals its especial values.There are five chapters:The first chapter is to explore and research the writing agents.
