In today's world, economic activities take the key role in society. A lot of scientific researches are revolved around economic activities. Language, as an indispensable tool that people use to communicate with each other in society, in order to play its proper role in economic reconstruction, deserves the special attention paid by the linguistic researchers. Therefore the thesis intends to reveal the position and function of language in economic activities through exposing the relationship between them, and hopes to impel language to serve economic reconstruction more subjectively and actively. It seems that language has nothing to do with economy on the surface, but in reality, there are close connections between them. The thesis starts at analyzing their concepts, and expounds on their relationships in general terms. It then discusses the relations between language development and economic development by reviewing the history of language and economy. Thirdly, the thesis studies the function of language in economic activities, and the influence of language on the three main bodies of economy: individual, enterprise and government. Fourthly, it analyses the market value of language and illustrates the proper attitude towards Putonghua and the minority group languages due to their vast differences on market values. At last, -the thesis expounds on the interaction between language and economy and talks about how economy takes effect on language and how language researches promote economic development.
