Translation is not only a technical matter, but relates to culture and humans. It is the translator who plays a deciding role in the translation process. This thesis will take the translator into consideration and analyze how he/she can affect translation so as to give some insights into this field of translation study.In the light of descriptive translation studies, the present thesis will try to answer the question of "why a translator translates in this way" instead of dealing with the problem of "how to translate". The thesis proposes that translator's language attitude is one of the factors affecting his/her choice of translation strategy. Domestication is related with a conservative attitude towards their native language, whereas foreignization is related with a much open attitude towards other languages.This thesis consists of five parts. The Introduction points out the importance of the translator and offers the background information of the studies of translators. Chapter One lays down the aim, method and scope of the present research. Chapter Two highlights translator's subjectivity with different versions that are translated in the same historical period. These translations rebut the universality of translation norms or a dominant ideology. Chapter Three offers the basic ideas of language attitude.
