Tang Dynasty was on opening era of free minds with vast territory. The intellectuals usually appreciated swordswomen and regarded them as equals, So they depicted them as a group of characters with less sense of strict asceticism virginity, and there was no ethical consciousness of the extend life. They were figured as being bolder and more vigorous and persistent; they eared to love and hate and they were less feminine in behavior. They had free and easy manners. Among them, there were even some typical thief images like Che Zhong Women and San Huan Women, who enjoyed freedom independence but full of self esteem, which marked the typical feature of that period.During the Song and Yuan periods, the intellectuals prefer knowledge to military. The general attitudes towards swordswomen were negative. Those swordswomen had indented revengeful spirit from those in Tang Dynasty. However, generally speaking, the free and easy makings had been replaced by a sense of no way out and holding back. Meanwhile, they began to show the influence of women's morality on their minds.In the Ming and Qing Dynasty, the development of the swordswomen had two tendencies. On one hand, as the feudal ethical codes being strengthened, the swordswomen were depicted as the models of the merits. On the other hand, intellectuals; who had been influenced by the cultural and political policies, often added the spirit of revenge to the personalities of swordswomen and described them as their representatives.
